The character
Jeanne Immink (1853 – 1929)
Dutch-born mountaineer, first among women to devote herself to this demanding sport, Jeanne Immink was a feminist with a rebellious temperament. Jeanne climbed 4,000 meters and participated in expeditions to the Alps and India. A member of the English Alpine Club and the Italian Alpine Club, she explored the Dolomites and made several first ascents accompanied by local guides from San Martino. Cima Immink and the nearby Campanile Giovanna on the Pale di San Martino are both dedicated to her.
